La li la. It’s making us a little crazy. What, you ask? This roof sitch. It’s been going on since October, and now that we are nearing the end (fingers crossed) I am getting ANTSY. Or even more antsy than the antsy that I formerly was. Capital ANTSY. Gah!
Here’s what’s yet to be done:
- cutting, staining, and installing the last rafter to replace one that became severely bowed
- 3 pieces of sheathing to be cut
- 7 pieces of sheathing to be tied down
- flashing
- demoing the old flashing on the parapets
- trimming out the parapet walls
Probably another solid two weeks of work. Then the roofers can come in and do the spray foam insulated roofing. All in all, we are three to five weeks out from the end point. Then we can focus on the Upper Yard once again. We completed demolition on the Upper Yard a year ago and barely began construction when this roof business began.
Or will we return to the Upper Yard? We’ve applied for another new HGTV show that would have us doing the dining/living/kitchen. How awesome would that be? Wish us luck!

The last progress was 4 months ago? No wonder you’re antsy.
Sometimes it helps to do one small thing to get the momentum moving again and help you forget the fact the project has been stalled since January. Staining the rafter, for example, won’t be too hard and it’ll help you get your groove back. Get ‘er done! :D
We’ve been working on it all the time for the past 4 or 5 months. What’s making me antsy is that the project is taking this long. I’m ready for it to be over.
